As is customary when we want to know what the most fly things are when it comes to SA hip-hop, we send a WhatsApp to music contributor SkinnyGenes_TV aka Ndu Donsa, SlikourOnLife content editor.

And it goes something like this:

Us: Yo, Ndu! What’s good, bruh? WE NEED NEW MUSIC.

A few days later, an email from Ndu arrived in our inbox:

“My list is all about hip hop tracks that have the energy to make you end up forgetting you are at the gym. Trust me, these tracks are going to make you enjoy your workout more than ever before”.

Well, you heard it from the man himself, now peep Ndu’s 10 tracks below.

TRACK NUMBER 1: HEAVY K FEAT. NOKWAZI – “SWEETIE”

Workout suggestion: play this track when you are cycling in the gym.

Kicking off our ultimate workout playlist is this Heavy K track titled “Sweetie”, which is a long track and is a perfect listen when you are reaching for that 5km mark on the bike.

Make it yours! Stream “Sweetie” here:

TRACK NUMBER 2: ANATTI FEAT. CASSPER NYOVEST AND NASTY C – “JUMP”

Workout suggestion: press play when you’re trying to skip like a boxer.

This record was released last month and from start to finish, it has a tempo that makes you literally wanna jump when you first listen to it. Word of advice: make sure you listen to this with plenty of room to move.

TRACK NUMBER 3: AEWON WOLF X GEMINI MAJOR X KHULI CHANA – “WALKING & DABBING”

Workout suggestion: this song is the ultimate cardio inspiration.

I like this record because the dab can be considered exercise, right? Left leg up, right leg up and now the dab. You get the drill?

TRACK NUMBER 4: STILO MAGOLIDE – “MORE”

Workout suggestion: play this track when you joining a morning class.

Taken from his “Cameron Diaz” mixtape which was released in 2015, Stilo comes in with a track that acts like an alarm clock and a hot cup of coffee: it wakes you up! Make sure you stay fly by asking your gym instructor to play “More” on repeat.

TRACK NUMBER 5: DJ DIMPLEZ FEAT. BURNA BOY – “CLEAN IN THIS B”

Workout suggestion: this is the song to dominate push-ups.

Remember when I warned you that there are tracks in my list that need you to have plenty of space when you listening to them in the gym? This DJ Dimplez banger is one of those tracks. Oh and btw, there is nothing wrong with that because when you’re dominating the space, you’re doing it right.

TRACK NUMBER 6: KANYE WEST – “STRONGER”

Workout suggestion: this right here is your treadmill track.

The lyrics by Kanye West on “Stronger” are very simple and motivating when you need that extra push. I feel that this track should be played when you are halfway through your workout. Trust me when I say that it will push you and make you go harder, better, faster, stronger.

TRACK NUMBER 7: MARTIN GARIX X MOTI – “VIRUS”

Workout suggestion: Play this track when you are warming up

I had the pleasure of seeing Martin Garix DJ’ing at Ultra Fest 2013 and let me tell you Martin Garix is no ordinary DJ. He literally has a whole fly dance routine when he plays his up tempo electro house set. You should really listen to this “Moti” track as it is perfect when you’re about to unlock your workout.

TRACK NUMBER 8: DRAKE X FUTURE “JUMP MAN”

Workout suggestion: play this track when you are doing leg curls.

“Jump Man” by Future and Drake is showing respect to the Jordan sports brand and is one of those records that should be a feature on #LegDay. I mean, it’s the perfect motivation when you want to push your legs to places they have never been before.

TRACK NUMBER 9: CASSPER NYOVEST X RIKY RICK – “LE MPITSE”

Workout suggestion: the only track you need for stomach crunches.

Before he was a rapper, Cassper was a dancer and still has the moves to match. On “Le Mpitse” which is a track from his sophomore album “Refiloe”, Cassper and Riky are saying you should call them back when the fun times are happening.  I think this is the perfect track to play when you doing stomach crunches because this is always the last exercise you do before leaving the gym, or is that just me?

TRACK NUMBER 10: DR MALINGA X MUUNGU AFRICA – “OTENG”

Workout suggestion: calf raises are best served with some medicine from the doctor.

Dr Malinga has made his name in South African music for having a deadly kick every time he performs on stage. The kick usually reaches his head and he does this way more than what seems humanly possible. In other words, this is a guy who knows about lower body strength. On “Oteng” Dr Malinga comes in with this fly track you should listen to while you’re mastering your calf raises.

P.S. Critics have said that Dr Malinga’s track sounds way too similar to this one from Stromae:

What do you think?
