Flying Fish Roadtrip With A Fly Twist

Roadtrip with a FLY Twist!

Adventure is out there!

9 province + 9 adventures = #EvenMoreFlavour

Scientific fact: road trips are fly. Piling into a car with a few of your buddies is fun, even though there’s always that one person (we see you) who never does their fair share of the driving. Do it anyway.

Pack a bag and fill up – okay, maybe get just enough petrol to carry you to your destination. Live on the edge, you know?

COMMENT on this post with your name and email address AND the name of a buddy you would roadtrip with and you could win tickets for you and a friend to experience the 300m long slip n slide at Slide Jozi happening on SAT 17 October in Sandton.

Seek adventure and add #EvenMoreFlavour to your memories. Tick off these 9 fly adventures and act like a tourist in your own backyard. Now say: “CHEESE!”

P.S. Don’t forget to follow us on Instagram @FlyingFishSA for #EvenMoreFlavour.

Eastern Cape

Surfing is way up there on the cool scale like it’s pretty much flying on water.

Don’t chicken out, dude. We know you saw “Jaws” like 5 times, but chill. The Jeffreys Bay waves are worth it. Rent a board, get a wetsuit and head out there.

FLY fact! Thanks to the Addo Elephant National Park, the E.C. has the densest elephant population in the world.

Free State

Flying Fish Free State

The unofficial motto of the Free State: “The Free State is a chill place.” Catchy, huh?

Go there to ask life’s big questions (but don’t answer them, that’s for the Northern Cape). Rent a mountain bike and ride around the many scenic parts of the eastern Free State. #MountainBikeAndChill

If that’s not your flavour, take a trip back in time – 2.023 billion years back to be exact. Visit the trippy Vredefort Dome and earn major bragging rights as you explore a World Heritage Site that probably contains the secrets of the Universe and stuff. And you thought that the Free State was boring…

If you’re in Johannesburg on Saturday 17th October, you’re in for a treat because Slide Jozi will be bringing their 300m long slide to Sandton. Slide Jozi, baby!

Not keen on venturing outdoors? We feel you, bro.

Swap the slide for the swipe and put your bank card to work at the Mall of Africa. Launching mid-2016, the mega mall promises to be a shopping utopia with brands such as H&M, River Island, Tommy Hilfiger, Hamleys and Forever 21.

But don’t wait until 2016 to visit Gauteng. From 28 – 31 October, the Goethe-Institut’s African Futures festival takes place in Jozi and promises to be straight-up amazing. Explore the line-up here.

P.S. Carla Fonseca and her band, Batuk will be performing at the African Futures final party on 31 October.

“Finding Nemo” is a really great film. Didn’t it have you all in your feels about that ugly little fish and the forgetful one and the sea turtles? Weren’t the fish in the tanks just a better version of “The Breakfast Club”?

At Ushaka Marine World, you can dive into aquariums (after lessons) and hang out with your ocean-bound homies.

Add #EvenMoreFlavour: make your childhood dreams come true and visit the Cereal Killer cafe in Durbs – so much sugar, so little time!

Flying Fish Limpopo

While in Limpopo, do some good in between the turn-up and morning-afters. The province is one of a few with wildlife rehabilitation centres, so use your visit as an opportunity to make some wild friends that’ll never talk back or tell you that your jokes are wack.

If you’re keen on some celeb-spotting of a different kind, give Jessica The Hippo a visit and give new meaning to the hashtag #SquadGoals.

With a fan club, a blog and a shop – Jessica is living her best life. S/O to making your dreams come true, no matter what species you are!

Flying Fish Mpumalanga

Green and lush – that’s Mpumalanga’s vibe. How would you like to take in all that beauty while freefalling 68 metres at 180 km/h?

Enter The Big Swing one of the world’s highest cable gorge swings located in Graskop, Mpumalanga.

If you love Ghostface Killah, Ghost Pops and Ghostbuster, then we’ve got the perfect paranormal tour just for you – the Kaapsehoop Ghost Tour. One of Mpumalanga’s best-kept secrets, the only question that remains is: “Who you gonna call?

North West

Flying Fish North West

The North West is home to the South African Music Awards (SAMAS), which seems like all the adventure the place has to offer.

Enter the Sun City Segway Tours. Ride the two-wheel coolness at your own pace and stand a chance to spot a member of the Big Five at a safe distance as you cruise along the Pilanesberg National Park.

Flying Fish Girl

FYI! Not to be confused with Kimye’s progeny – the North West province is not a ridiculously well-dressed baby.

Northern Cape

Big Hole? Nope.

To infinity and beyond! Go stargazing in this beautiful province. In Sutherland, home to the SALT you’ll get to look at some stars and maybe ponder forget your woes.

Pro tip! Definitely rent a 4X4 if you can. The Northern Cape is that four-wheel drive province.

Western Cape

Get down from that table-shaped mountain. You do that every time. Ugh.

If you’re feeling disaffected and like you can’t even, try this pretty safe thing of getting into a cage and going under the water to hang with a shark or two. It might put this life thing back in perspective.

While in the Western Cape, venture beyond the many spoils of Cape Town and Stellies and swing by one of the many tiny towns that make up the province. While just about everyone can claim to have gone to Kaapstad, how many people can say they chilled in Onrus, Mamre, Saron and Botrivier?

Got the travel bug? Check out our fly guide to Durbs here.

Keen for a bit of after-hours adventure? Twerk it out. Discover the best of Jozi’s nightlife here.

Broke but willing? Stage your own twerk contest (in your bedroom) with the help of these hot tracks.
